With a bank account balance of approximately £1.90, it’s very rare for me to take a look at the constant stream of shop newsletters that bombard my inbox everyday. When I do feel like a little cyber window shopping, I very carefully stick to the kind folk at Everything5pounds for my fashion fix, and that’s only to stare blankly at their new ranges that I cannot yet afford.
But, with Payday coming up, I’m on the lookout for a few new items to spruce up my years-old wardrobe and fill my blog with OOTD posts. Checking out New Look’s SS17 Trend Guide, it’s good to see that a few of my favourite trends seem to be here to stay.
Rose Gold & Perfect Pinks
If Rose Gold or blush pinks are in the vicinity, my keen eye will seek them out within minutes. You can guarantee anything with these tones are my absolute go-to whenever I’m rooting for my next purchase.
It’s a colour trend that suits absolutely everyone, and if I don’t get my hands on that little hooded jacket and metallic backpack, I shall cry into a million rose gold tissues until my dying day.
No matter how many years go by, or how many trends we pass along the way, there’s nothing that screams Spring time quite like a bit of gingham. Perhaps its the similarities between these adorable pieces and your favourite picnic rug from when you were a kid that keeps it so on trend? Whatever it is, it’s working.
I’ve had several pairs of gingham leggings and trousers on my Depop wishlist for over a year now. But it’s a case of ‘do I risk the chance of never actually wearing them? But gosh darn, they’re so cute’. I think gingham – or patterned pants entirely for that matter – are something for someone with a personality a little more confident than mine. Not only do I very strictly stick to black bottoms, I tend to keep this formality with absolutely no fuss, pattern or colour. It’s pretty boring, but can I really deal with all eyes on me when I present my gingham legs to the world? Probably not.
Bodysuit, £36, Topshop
Skirt, New Look (Coming Soon, I assume)
Scream it with me now, YASSSSSS! If you visit this space on the internet often, you’ll have recently found out about my deep love for the embroidered floral trend that seems to be here to stay. My bank account and I have released a huge sigh of relief at the news that we have not – yet again – missed out on stocking our wardrobe with these beaut items before the trend is dead. I intend for my whole Spring wardrobe to be covered in blossoming flowers.
Honestly, I’ve considered mastering the art of sewing so much recently, literally just so I can embroider the shit out of my wardrobe. So far, I am yet to put the thread in the needle.
Mesh Hoodie, £17.99, New Look
I’m sure you’ll all be surprised to know that the Mesh trend is actually one of my all time favourites. And it’s probably a surprise because I very very very rarely dip my little toe into the world of mesh clothing. I guess every time Kendall Jenner lets out another ‘free the nipple’ Insta, I feel like I really need to up my mesh game, yet don’t quite have the sex appeal of a world famous supermodel to pull it off.
After having a little quarter life crisis over the past few months, I’ve come to conclude that I want to re-invent my style and look, and mesh will totally be a big part of it. I want to feel confident and sexy, not just some sort of giant child in clothes she’s had since school. I don’t want to be mistaken for a student on her way to school in my black skirt and checked shirt for work, I want to be Instagram filter hawt; I want my look to totally reflect that I am in my twenties and 2017 is going to be my year of fun. Is that too much to ask?
My Must Haves
What I have noticed in a few of my recent high street newsletters is that there’s plenty of items that aren’t quite ready for release yet. In New Look’s trend guide for SS17, not only did I immediately fall in love with the little hooded jacket, I also have a serious need for this pink metallic anorak. Both of which aren’t on their site yet!
Sure, I have 9 nine coats already, but I don’t have these coats, and that’s the important bit here. I see my Spring being filled with April showers, so to cover up my dignity and new mesh attire, it is almost crucial that I have one of every colour.
